Cogsys is very easy to install: configure your computer's BIOS to boot from CD, insert the Cogsys Installation CD, and reboot your computer. At the 'boot:' prompt, type 'cleanks'. This will do a fresh installation of Cogsys, using available space on the computer's hard drive. (If your hard disk has partitions which fill up the hard drive, you will need to use fdisk to delete thest partitions.)
The computer will re-boot itself twice during the installation process.
After the installation is complete, you will need to enter your computer's IP address and Hardware (MAC) Address in the file /data/mac.table. This step is only necessary if you will be transferring testlists over a network. At the "Cogsys Login" menu, type "Q" to quit, then "shexit" to exit out to a command prompt. Type "ifconfig", and write down the Hardware Address (of the form AB:CD:EF:GH:IJ:KL). Now edit the file /data/mac.table, and add your MAC and IP to the file, following the pattern of the other addresses in mac.table. You will also want to verify that the Netmask and Default Gateway are correct, and give your machine a name.
If you have several machines running Cogsys, you may want to use a common mac.table file, kept in a central repository. In this case, get the MAC Address of the Cogsys machine as above, edit the common mac.table file, copy the file to a floppy, mount the floppy on the Cogsys machine, then copy the new mac.table into the /data directory.
Once /data/mac.table has been modified, issue the command 'set_IP', which compares the machine's MAC Address to all the MAC Addresses in mac.table, and assigns the IP Address accordingly. You should now be able to ping the machine. If the machine does not reply, check your mac.table and your network connection.
Restart the computer using the command 'shutdown -r now'.
