The File Chooser provides an interface which allows the lab procto/userr to choose a testlist from a network server (or from the local workstation) and specify the name of the output file.
The output file is placed into the same directory that the input file is chosen from. If an output file name is identical to one already in the destination directory, an error message is displayed, and the proctor/user is prompted for another output file name.
Let us assume that the desired testlist is
/u/gail/tk/tx01/tx01tl10
and the output file is
/u/gail/tk/tx01/tx01s01
NOTE: If you get lost anywhere in the testlist selection process,
you can hit the <ESC> key many times to get you back to the
COGSYS Login menu. Then you can start over again.
NOTE: If you want to stop in the middle of a testlist, type a "@"
(SHIFT-2) at the keyboard.
1. Turn on computer and monitor. Allow it to boot all the way.
You will see a menu which looks like:
COGSYS Login
============
Select testlist source:
1. expt
2. postdoc
3. local data
Q. Quit
S. Shut down
Select option (1-3,Q,S)
2. Choose option 1 (expt) from the "COGSYS Login" menu,
then enter the expt password ("ding, dong").
3. Hit <ENTER> at the "Begin CogSys?" window.
4. You are now in the /u/gail/ directory.
You can specify the "tk/tx01/tx01tl10" file two ways:
either (a) type in "tk/tx01/tx01tl10" <ENTER> at the keyboard,
or (b) push the "Left Arrow" key twice to put the cursor in the
"Directories" window, "Down Arrow" to the "tk" directory, then
hit <ENTER>, "Down Arrow" to the "tx01" directory, hit <ENTER>,
"Right Arrow" to the "Files" window, "Down Arrow" to "tx01tl10",
then hit <ENTER>.
REMEMBER: If you get "lost", hit <ESC> several times to get back
to the top-level menu. Then start over.
5. Once you have selected your input testlist, COGSYS will ask you for
the name of the output file. I suggest you hit the <END> key to go
to the end of the word, then use the backspace key to delete (in
this case) "tl10", then type in "s01", making your output file name
"tx01s01". Hit <ENTER>.
6. If the name "tx01s01" already exists, an error screen will pop up.
Hit <ENTER>, then change the name of the output file.
7. Once a valid output file name is entered, you will get a "Confirm
Selections" window which will ask you to confirm your file
selections. If all is in order, press <ENTER>, otherwise use the
<ESC> key.
8. At this point, the testlist will start to run. This is the point
where subjects will start the experiment.
NOTE: If you need to stop the experiment before it ends,
type an "@".
9. When subjects are done, their output file will appear in the
appropriate directory. If the file DOES NOT appear, all is not
lost. There is a good chance the file was saved on the test-taking
computer. Contact the programmer and explain the problem.
10. The "Begin Cogsys" window is now showing. If you want to run the
same (or a similar) testlist again, hit <ENTER>. The previous
testlist is pre-selected. If you want that testlist, hit <ENTER>,
then enter the output file name. If you want a similar testlist
(in the same directory), you can <BACKSPACE> over the end of the
testlist name, then enter the new testlist name.
11. If you are done running, you can hit <ESC> at the "Begin Cogsys"
window. This will take you back to the "COGSYS Login" menu.
Shut down the computer by selecting "s", then confirm with "y".
Wait for the screen to say "Power Down", then power down the
computer and the monitor.
